Dieting And Exercise: The Perfect Tandem To Proper Weight Loss by James Brown

Oftentimes, whenever you look at yourself in the mirror, you end up being your very own critic. You tend to detect even the slightest change in your appearance (e.g. the wrinkles on your face, how your waistline seems bigger than the last time or how bloated you feel than before). Nowadays, people are getting more conscious with the way they look and feel. People often resort to dieting to somehow improve how they see and feel about themselves.

Yes, dieting can be the solution, but not the only solution. It should always be paired with regular exercise. These two should be a part of your daily routine if you would want to lose weight and maintain your desired figure. It should also be remembered that these two are a tandem. One always complements the other. This short article will talk about the benefits of doing simple routines in your very own home to help you get and maintain the desired weight.

Weight training for at least 30 minutes 4 to 5 times a week is beneficial to the body resulting to a slimmer, firmer and a more fit you. It not only tones and shapes your muscles but it is even good for the heart. It helps improve your cardiovascular fitness. However, it may also be necessary, especially for those with heart problems to consult the doctor first on any plans for weight training. Such activity may prove to be too strenuous for your health. On the average, every pound of muscle burns around thirty to thirty-five calories a day. As a person ages, he or she becomes more inactive and therefore starts to lose muscle mass and his level of metabolism also decreases. Based on a study, the average adult who is inactive will lose around a half pound of muscle each year. Have you ever wondered where your bulging belly or your love handles come from? This is considered to be one of the main reasons for such. You wonder how you are gaining weight when the way you consumed food when you were younger is practically the same way you do now that you are older. The amount of calories your body requires lessens when you age. Muscle development helps your body burn those extra calories you get from the food you eat.

There are indeed a lot of exercise options you can choose from. Whether you opt to make cardiovascular exercises as your daily routine, go for weight training, enroll in an aerobics class or whether you'd like to try indulging in sports, the key is always to pair that routine with a proper diet. If you stick to dieting alone, you may be able to lose weight but there will not be much energy preserved in your body. It is important for the body to have some sort of exercise in order to control the weight loss. On the other hand, exercise alone will not do any good. Without controlling what you eat, the calories and fats burned with exercise will just be gained back. Exercise and diet will ensure proper weight loss as dieting helps you watch your food intake while exercise helps in preserving energy.

How To Get Great Abs by Bob Johnson

This a simple step by step process to gaining and maintaining six pack abs is as follows: strengthen your abdominal muscles and lose body fat. The concept is simple, but putting it into action is not. It will take dedication, willpower, patience and time to get a six pack but in the end, the effort is well worth it. Remember, abs are made mostly in the kitchen! You can have the most toned and defined abs but they won't show through if there's a layer of fat over them.

Follow These Steps:

Build Muscle

Perfom Crunches(with or without mat).

Lie down on the floor and cross your arms in front of your chest. (Do not place both hands behind your head. Placing both hands behind your head can cause lower back problems in the long run as it places unnecessary stress on that part of your body from pulling on your head and neck.) Another alternative to crossing your arms in front of your chest is to lightly place your finger tips behind your ears, without pulling on your neck or ears to help raise you off the floor. Draw in your abdomen towards your spine while inhaling through your nose. Now raise your shoulders (upper torso) towards your knees, using strictly your abdominal muscles. It is very important not to lift your entire back off the floor, as this can cause back strain, and the extended movement does not help you develop six pack abs any faster. The most important part of the crunch is the initial flexing of your abs as you lift your shoulders off of the floor. As soon as you begin lifting off the floor exhale through your mouth, ending with a gasp once your shoulders are off the floor. Then pause for a second once you are at the top of the crunch and exhale the last bit of air from your diaphragm while flexing your abs. The proper breathing and flexing make all the difference. Now lower back down slowly and controlled while inhaling through your nose, just until your shoulder blades touch the ground. Do not let your head touch the ground and repeat.

Perform Sit Ups.

Lie down on the floor, feet on the floor, knees up and fingers placed behind your ears or hands crossed on your chest. Sit all the way up, lifting your lower back off the floor along with your shoulder blades. Lower yourself down. Repeat. Once this becomes relatively easy for you (i.e. you can do a quite a bit with ease) start adding more challenges. Make the exercise more difficult to achieve. Find an incline bench or do these on an exercise ball. Once you "graduate" from that, do weighted sit ups. Hold a weight on your chest while you do these. As these become easier, hold heavier and heavier weights. You might also try lifting your feet off the ground while doing the sit ups or alternating the leg in the air, like pretending to pedal while sitting up. If your hands are behind your head, bring your left knee up to touch your right elbow and then your right knee to the left elbow.

Perform Leg Lifts.

Lie down on the floor, legs straight out, hands at your sides. Lift your legs straight up (not bending your knees at all) until they're at a ninety degree angle (or close). Lower your legs and repeat without letting your legs touch the floor. If you want a great challenge there is equipment at most gyms that will allow you to raise yourself up using your arms as support and dangle your legs. You can perform leg lifts there too. If you're using this piece of equipment, you can make it easier by just raising your knees to your chest. It's more difficult to raise your legs to a horizontal position with your legs straight. This helps firm up the lower abdomen. If you're truly a monster, try doing leg lifts with a medicine ball hanging from your feet. Or hang from a pull up bar and raise your legs in front of you all the way up to the bar. Still too easy?...

Perform Jackknife Sit Ups.

Lie down flat on the floor. Place your hands on the ground to your sides for balance; you can pick them up as you get used to the movement. Simultaneously raise your knees and torso so that your knees and face meet on an imaginary line extending from your pelvis to the ceiling. You should be able to kiss your knees at the top of the motion. Your legs will naturally fold bringing your feet towards your hips, much like a jackknife. Lie back down (i.e. "spread out") and repeat. Place a weight between your feet when you think you can handle it. What's that? More?

Perform V-ups.

Lie down on the floor, legs straight out, hands on the floor but this time extended out over your head. Simultaneously raise legs and torso. Don't bend your knees! What kind of V would it be if you bend your knees? Reach with your hands toward the raised feet. Touch your feet if possible (might require some flexibility). Relax, return to starting position and repeat. Add weight between feet to match your taste.

Static Hold and Side Statics.

Get your body into the push-up position. Now place your elbows on the floor, and you whole body flat. This position is known as the static hold position and it trains your core (including your abs) to hold the body in place which is the real purpose of your abs. Hold this position for as long as possible, but you should be aiming to start off with at least 45 seconds, while seasoned ab workers known to achieve over 20 minute static holds. To perform the side static hold roll onto one side of your body and lift into the same position as before, but this time only one arm will be on the ground with the other arm pointed straight up the air and your non-weight bearing leg resting on your bottom leg. Once again, hold this for as long as possible.

How To Get Great Abs recommends That You Also Train Your Oblique Muscles. It's not as important to work on your oblique muscles at first, but eventually you'll want to start working these too. These are the muscles to either side of your stomach. There are many ways to do this and anything that includes twisting your torso against a resistance counts. Use the twisting machines at gyms and you can twist while you do sit-ups, you can do side bends, you can twist side to side with a medicine ball in hand, etc. Be aware though, that many beginners tend to have weak obliques compared to their abs (it simply isn't used as much in daily life) so go easy on the sides at first.

1. Other exercises: Since it is, literally, the center of your body there are many other tricks you can use to train your abs, and some of the other movements will more or less involve your abs. Including every abdominal exercise in existence would make this article painfully long and new methods are being developed constantly. Now that you have the right mindset about your washboard mid-section, get creative! Find new ways to crunch, bend and twist in your daily life. Some possibilities include: Use a stability ball. Perform your crunches on the ball to introduce instability to your workout, which will improve your balance too. There are also lots of core exercises that can be done with a stability ball. You can also use a small bubble use for physical therapy.

Duck and twist during your daily routine. Reach with your left hand to things on your right and vice versa. If you feel like turning around to face something, see if you can do it with keeping your hips in place and twisting at the waist (warning: awkward when talking to other people, use only against inanimate objects). While walking or standing, pretend that something is coming toward you and you have to duck to get out of the way. Do this as often as you are comfortable or at times when it won't look weird. You can bend forward from the hips or, if you're really into it, bend at the knees too and really "sink" out of the way.

Perfrom the Scientific Best Abs Exercise Researchers at the San Diego State University, discovered that there are certain abs exercises that triggers most muscular activity. The winner was the "bicycle maneuver":

1. Lie down on the floor; make sure your lower back is pressed on the ground. 2. Take your hands behind your ears. Then bring up your knees at a 45 degree angle. 3. Start doing a bicycle pedalling motion. Touch your elbow with the opposite knee (right elbow with left knee and so on, alternating) 4. Breathe relaxed and evenly throughout the whole exercise. How To Get Great Abs Diet Tips

1. Keep Metabolism Steady. Eating one small meal (such as a potato, a salad, etc.) every three hours that you are awake will not speed up your metabolism, rather, it will keep it going. Your metabolism goes and slows with your food intake and eating something small every three hours will keep that metabolism burning calories and will help you lose weight.

2. Eat Smaller Dinners. Cut down on the size of your dinner. If you're hungry, snack on fruits or other healthy, low calorie snacks. Large dinners tend to hurt a fat loss process because most people aren't very active after dinner. This is the basis for advice along the lines of "don't eat anything within X hours before going to bed". The claim that your entire dinner is stored as fat isn't entirely true (the process is more complicated than that) but the fact you don't move after dinner is enough to hurt your cause. You can offset this by eating a larger lunch or snacking healthily before dinner. Fresh fruits or vegetables are excellent choices for curbing appetite not to mention other health benefits. A handful of nuts might do the same. Drink a large glass of water before sitting at the table.

3. Eat More Fiber. Most people don't get enough fiber. The recommended amount is actually not that much if you eat a healthy diet. "Fiber foods" include whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and nuts and seeds. Other options are fiber supplements.

4. Eat Breakfast. Many people skip breakfast because they don't have time for it. Keep this in mind: You don't have time to skip breakfast, it's simply too valuable to skip. The fact that skipping breakfast messes up your concentration and other mental functions is beyond the scope of this article. The harm of skipping breakfast from a weight loss perspective is it makes you eat a huge lunch since your body hasn't had anything in the past 12 (or more) hours. When you eat a huge lunch you get that after meal drowsiness so now you're both unproductive and inactive. Cereals don't take much time to prepare and consume, and most of them are very healthy nowadays. If you are extremely pressed for time, consider grabbing a box of breakfast bars or a smoothie and throwing one in your bag when you leave for work or school. Some breakfast bars out there are also excellent sources of fiber.

5. Eat Smaller Meals More Frequently. This helps raise your metabolism too. It's not easy to do though since it's a relatively big change to most people's routines. But it doesn't have to be a full blown meal, simply eat often but less. A jar of nuts in the office will do just fine, grab a handful when you feel like it. Most fruits can last for a couple days without refrigeration, and if you have a refrigerator at the office, make use of it.

6. Drink More Water Everyday. Many places suggest 8 cups (2 L) of water a day. It sounds like an absurd amount of water, but actually, you can drink tea without sugar to make up some of the quota. In fact tea, especially green tea, rev up your "metabolism" (actually cause a temporary increase in calories burned).

For fat loss purposes, it is important to remind yourself that thirst is a much weaker stimuli than hunger. If you consistently feel hungry after meals, don't immediately think that you need to eat more. You may simply be thirsty! Needless to say there are many benefits of water. 69% of your body is made of it!

Ten Myths about Dieting and losing weight by Hafizsteen

Diet Myth 1- Eating Late packs on The Pounds

The kinds of foods you're eating put on the weight, not the clock. Your body doesn't process calories differently after dark. However, the foods that people tend to go for in front of the TV after dinner - chips, ice cream, chocolate treats, and the likes - are usually high in fat and calories. How often have you snacked on celery sticks while watching pay-per-view? Also, many people eat continuously from dinner to bedtime. It's the kind of chaotic eating pattern that assures weight gain and prevents weight loss.

Diet Myth 2 - Consuming Fewer Calories to achieve a breakthrough

You may share the common misconception that eating fewer calories can help you lose weight and give you a better diet. However, if you eat fewer than 800 to 1,000 calories a day, your body will turn down its thermostat to conserve every calorie it can get. It doesn't know whether you're starving on a desert island or starving to lose weight faster so that you can wear that teeny-weeny bikini. The only way to keep your metabolism going and diet effectively is to exercise. When weight loss slows, walk a little longer, work out more frequently or more intensely, and don't forget to eat.

Diet Myth 3 - Never Have Seconds

Instead of using a plate of food or a predetermined serving size as a yardstick of how much you should eat, try taking hunger and fullness cues from your body. Eating according to your appetite is much healthier. And when you eat slowly, recognizing when you've had enough is much easier and can lose weight easily.

Keep in mind that there's a difference between appetite and hunger. Appetite has more to do with flavor preferences; hunger is a biological manifestation of the body's real need for food. If it's been a while since you and your appetite have seen eye to eye on how much to eat, try this: Serve yourself only half of what you think you want to eat. If you're still hungry after eating at a leisurely pace, go for it - in moderation, of course.

Also remember that you are hungrier on some days than on others. So when you're really, truly hungry, it's fine to eat more. Remember that one meal doesn't define eating healthfully and can make you lose weight faster but what you eat over the course of a day or several days does matters more.

Diet Myth 4 - Denying Your Cravings

Maybe you've heard people suggest that your cravings are all in you head. Sometimes, the faster you give in and have a small portion of the food that you're craving, the better off you are. You can pack on many calories by trying to eat around the one thing that you truly want. Have a small serving of the food you crave and get over it.

Diet Myth 5 - Don't Eat Between Meals

Most people need to eat every three to four hours to avoid getting too hungry, which often leads to overeating. Dividing your calories into three meals and two or three snacks, instead of only three meals, can keep you well fueled for the day. Try planning two or three snack-size portions) for example, a piece of fruit or two fig cookies plus low-fat or fat free milk or yogurt) into your day's food choices. Doing so may help lessen your hunger pangs so that you're less likely to overeat at the next meal.

Diet Myth 6 - Eating Breakfast Makes You Hungry All Day

Many typical Breakfast foods - Danish, toast with jelly, and bagels, for example - are mainly carbohydrates in their simplest form. These foods, while initially satisfying, are out of your system in about 20 minutes, and you need (and want) to eat again. That's why many people say that breakfast kicks off non-stop eating throughout the day.

Well, skipping breakfast entirely is not a good method to lose weight. Breakfast food that have some protein and a little fat, in addition to complex carbohydrates and sugars, stay with you longer and give you the energy you need to make it through the morning. Whole-grain cereal with low fat or fat free milk, an egg on toast, and even a fruity breakfast shake made with low fat or fat-free ilk are good choices

Diet Myth 7 - To Lose Weight, Become A Vegetarian

Being vegetarian doesn't ensure that you'll lose weight. Like any other method of eating, a vegetarian diet can be high in fat and cholesterol, low in fiber or both. Many vegetarian foods, including cheese and nuts, are high in fat and calories. So cutting out meat and replacing it with other equally fatty) or even more fatty vegetarian foods isn't only a bad diet move, but it may also increase your chances for nutritional deficiencies - especially if you don't plan your diet well.

Diet Myth 8 - Fasting is good for diet and help lose weight

Some dieters will tell you that fasting for a few days can help you lose weight quickly and shrinks your stomach. You may lose weight if you fast, but some of that weight is muscle and most of it is water. You need to eat protein foods, such as lean meat, eggs low fat or fat-free milk, or legumes (beans and peas), or you'll be thin and flabby, not thin and shapely.

Some health-conscious dieters share the misconception that fasting cleans out your system. But actually, the opposite is true. When the body doesn't get food, body chemicals called ketones build up over time. That process puts a burden on the kidneys, which can be harmful to your health. Not to mention that it gives you really bad breath, too.

Diet Myth 9 - Eat everything That's Fat Free

Don't believe that you can eat anything that you want as long it's fat free. Fat free foods aren't calorie free foods; check the Nutrition Facts panel on the food label. Many have just as many calories as the original versions, and a few have even more, because plenty of sugar (among other ingredients) is needed to replace the way fats taste and feels in your mouth. In the end, the total number of calories in a food is what's important.

A little fat is good because it can help you eat less by giving a meal staying power, which keeps you from feeling hungry too quickly. Instead of a sandwich made with fat-free mayonnaise and fat free cold cuts; make one with a teaspoon of real mayonnaise and low fat meat; it will stay with you longer than a fat free meal

Diet Myth 10 - Some Food Burns More Calories They Contain

You may have heard this myth in regard to apples, and other fruit, and can help you lose weigh faster. Unfortunately that's like returning from a trip before you left. It's physically impossible. Your body burns calories as it digests and metabolizes foods, but it's only about 10 percent of the calories you need each day

How To Lose Weight Quickly by Sara Long

There are a lot of so-called "how to lose weight quickly" articles and web sites out there on the net. The very vast majority of them can be summed up like this: buy my junk, drink water, buy my junk, watch what you eat, buy my junk, exercise, buy my junk

Yeah, great. Thanks guys. Appreciate it.

What I am going to try and do in this article is give you more than just the tired advice.

The big question however is this: Is it possible AND healthy to lose a lot of weight quickly.

The answer is yes.

Now, I will admit that in a lot of ways, the rate you drop those pounds is somewhat dependent on a lot of factors, and I will cover those.

In fact, in this article I am going to cover the "I'm desperate to lose as much weight as possible and will do anything" as well as cover how you can be a little more ... normal ... about it.

I am also going to cover how you can lose weight on the hectic busy schedules most of us live under. With that said, lets get started.

"Death begins in the colon"

That is a quote by some long dead guy I heard once and have never forgotten. However, the fact of the matter is that your colon, if you are more than about 30 years old, is probably holding some ten to fifteen POUNDS of garbage, and that garbage is bloating out your stomach.

Without a doubt the easiest and fastest way of losing a bunch of pounds quickly is to start with the colon.

If you are desperate to lose weight quickly, then definitely look to "colon hydrotherapy". There are some downsides to this. First, this should ONLY be done by a licensed practitioner (every major city will have several). Second is that this is a bit uncomfortable and expensive. However, you will walk out of a session seriously lighter. The next day your stomach will be noticeably flatter, the day after you'll have A LOT more energy.

However, if you are not quite that desperate, then look to do a "cleanse". Now, you could run out and buy some expensive cleansing products that will run you a couple of hundred dollars by the time you're done (in which case you could've just gotten the hydrotherapy) ... or you could simply learn the dietary steps to doing the cleanse yourself at home. This is cheaper and, in my opinion, a lot better.

Now, I would be remiss if I left out diet ... especially after mentioning that you can cleanse at home with the things you eat.

With that said, there is the hyper fast way of losing weight quickly (useful for the desperate), and the more reasonable way of doing it.

For the desperate, there is simply no substitute for "negative calorie" eating. It is a little more complicated than this, but basically, the deal is to eat vegetables exclusively for 7 days. Vegetables often require more calories to digest than what they contain.

If you do go this route you will ABSOLUTELY want to get a good quality protein powder (go to any GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc) as well as a good quality multi-vitamin.

However, if eating like a rabbit for the next seven days isn't your idea of fun, then your next alternative is to head to your local GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, etc. and buy a good quality meal replacement powder.

Drink one of these for lunch, and again just before dinner. You'll find that they fill you up like nobody's business and therefore you'll eat less. When you do eat, eat fruits or vegetables and a SMALL amount of meat.

Last but not least, and this is important if you want to lose weight quickly.

NO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS OF ANY KIND. It is probably a good idea to avoid sugar as well. Most artificial sweeteners (high fructose corn syrup, Aspartame, Sucralose, just to name the worst offenders) are often chemically designed to make you fatter. They are probably the cruelest hoax perpetrated on the global public I can think of.

If you do want to sweeten something (such as your morning coffee), then head on over to a health food store and pick up some organic evaporated cane juice or something like it.

If you did just these things, you could easily lost 10 to 20 pounds in a matter of DAYS.

Seven Weight Loss Tips by Machelle LeeSeven Weight Loss Tips by Machelle Lee

Here are seven weight loss tips to get you started on getting the body of your dreams!

#1.During your workouts do exercise that incorporate compound movements rather than simple ones. This will not only help in burning more calories, but will also tone more muscle at once! A few good compound movement exercises include: squats, dead lifts, bent over rows, and lunges.

#2. Set fitness goals for yourself. Be sure to write your goals down and post them where you will see them everyday. Your goal may be to lose 5 pounds, to lose 5 inches off your waist. Make sure that you are very specific with your goals, vague goals will get you nowhere. A qualified personal trainer can help you set your goals and guide you to them.

#3. Pump some iron! Did you know that 1 lb of muscle burns 30-50 calories per day, while 1 lb of fat only burns about 9 calories per day? The more muscle your body contains the more calories you burn each day. Resistance training has been called the fountain of youth - and it really is!

#4. A great way to burn off excess fat is to walk or jog for as little as 15-20 minutes first thing in the morning. Performing a calorie burning activity right when you wake up is more effective since your body is depleted of calories, and is forced to pull energy from fat stores. A personal trainer can help you identify your ideal target heart rate for maximum fat burn.

#5. Make a habit of weighing and measuring yourself monthly and tracking your gains and losses. I know this sounds tedious but it is a great way to help you prevent gradual weight gain from creeping up when you least expect it.

#6. When lifting weights, try slowing down the speed at which you lower the weight. Lowering weight in a controlled manner will add strength and tone to your muscles and decrease the chance of an injury.

#7. Losing patience with exercise? The key to weight loss and fitness gains is to consistently give your body new challenges. Mix up your workouts every few weeks, and don't be afraid to try something new! Make your body constantly adapt to new challenges and stimulus. Hire a personal trainer who can help you add new excitement to your fitness program.

Stay strong, stay motivated and keep on moving.

Fast Weight Loss Tips to Accelerate Your Dieting Results by Melinda Grossman

Having a few fast weight loss tips on hand will jump-start your diet. You can also use them in a short-term diet for an event coming up soon. And of course, everything you learn can be carried through for regular long-term eating habits.

Some diet proponents who offer fast weight loss tips suggest you start your quest to lose weight with detoxification. The theory is your body works more efficiently if you give it a few cleansing foods. These include cherries and berries. Citrus fruits, apricots, and prunes are also used. Oh, and fiber is important too.

Other weight loss tips involve drinking water. First of all, you should drink at least 8 ten-ounce glasses a day. Yeah, yeah. I know you've heard this tip before but that's because it works!

And remember to drink ice water whenever you can. The coldness of the water forces the body to burn extra energy to bring your temperature back to a normal level. There's some debate over the validity of whether cold water actually makes much difference or not, but it definitely doesn't undermine your efforts.

Water has many benefits linked to rapid weight loss. One of the main uses of water by the body is to flush the kidneys. This gets rid of waste. If there isn't enough water to flush the waste from the kidneys, the liver steps in to help. Since the liver is busy doing extra work flushing waste it slows down its action of metabolizing fats.

So, one of the key fast weight loss tips for you to take advantage of is drink 80-ounces or more of water everyday!

Green tea is a marvelous way to boost your metabolism. It helps you burn calories and lose weight faster than you would otherwise. Just remember it does contain some caffeine in its herbal makeup. A good tip for faster weight loss is to drink 5 to 6 cups of green tea per day while dieting.

Foods that contain capsaicin will help increase your metabolism for a couple of hours after eating. Capsaicin can be found in hot foods like mustard and chili sauce - it comes from chilies. Essentially it's a thermogenic agent that increases your overall metabolic activity, thus helping your body burn calories and fat.

Therefore, eat more foods that contain capsaicin. The added "kick" will help you lose weight faster.

There has been a lot of news lately about the importance of milk in weight loss programs. Indeed it's true that drinking milk can have a profound effect during your weight loss process. Low fat milk products will make fat burning in the stomach area increase. The calcium in the milk stimulates the release of fat out of the cells. It also inhibits fats from being stored.

Another tip for faster weight loss is to eat fiber-rich foods. These make you feel full, for one thing. They do this by slowing the movement of food through the digestive tract. Not only that but fiber-rich food help keep your body cleansed and have a lower glycemic index. This is good for your blood sugar.

Knowing some fast weight loss tips is valuable. You'll see better results from your diet right away. This naturally motivates you to lose more. Even if your long-term weight loss plan is complex, you'll get off to a good start with plenty of weight loss tips at your fingertips.

Preparing for Weight Loss by Kevin Raison

Copyright (c) 2007 Kevin Raison

If you've just started reading this article then you're probably looking for the miracle cure or pill that's going to treat you of all your unwanted bodyfat.

Well, I can't promise you that but I can pretty much guarantee that you'll see a different approach to the next diet that you'll try and get some better results.

So, what'next to hit the industry?

Juggling with kettlebells on a bosu ball just to get the pulse racing?

Seriously, where are we going wrong?

Well firstly, there are a lot of desperate people who will do anything to lose those unwanted pounds of stubborn bodyfat but unfortunately want to lose it all way too quickly and with no extra effort. Well when I say anything, what I really mean is anything that's involves taking a magic pill.

Well I'm sorry but there's no such thing and even if there was, wouldn't you rather lose weight and feel healthy at the same time?

Let's face it, what exactly drew you to this article, it wouldn't be the title fat loss would it?

Now what were you really expecting, something so new and unheard of that even Hollywood haven't caught onto it yet?

If so, then we've got problems. If you thought that maybe there's a better approach to losing weight than what you're doing right now then your right!

So what's the first step to take when you finally realize that you can't lose weight by eating chips (something I read in a men's mag). Well before you start dialing the number for your nearest weight watchers or slimming world club (my personal opinion is don't bother), you need to get your mind ready for action.

Remember everything you do comes from the mind so if your mind isn't ready, you're on the familiar road to failure.

Take a minute to count how many times you've decided to start a new diet only to wake up and not bother?

What's worse, you then feel that's it's then expectable to eating crisps, chocolate or whatever you crave by telling yourself that it's alright because your diet starts tomorrow!!!

If you were mind set on your diet in the first place, you wouldn't have chocolate or crisps or whatever you crave for you own in your home!

This is also very true for the latest gym exercise fad or January/February rush. "Right, that's it....I'm joining a gym and getting fit" or "there's this great new body combat with real weapons and the instructor said it's good because the fear of getting injured raises the metabolism."

Ok, so maybe a bit far fetched, but that persons been going to the gym for 3 months and hasn't lost a single pound!

All I am trying to reinforce here in my 'grumpy old men style' is to prepare your mind before you rush off to try the latest fad diet or exercise and stop looking for the miracle cure.

Crunch Time

So what do you need to do?

Firstly, you need to determine what drives you to want to lose weight or get fitter. Then you need to change the reasons why you want to lose weight into why you must lose weight.

So straight away, we change from wanting to lose weight to having to lose weight and already become very powerful and fixed on what we are going to achieve.

In fact one thing that we do at Kevin Raison Personal Training Studios in the West Midlands is find out exactly what they want before they start training with us. We start this in the consultation room where we get our clients to be as precise as they can when it comes to achieving their goals.

As we make a note of this, it makes our clients more aware of their goals and how serious we are about their goals. We also get them to write down what they are going to achieve in that certain time frame and recommend them onto programs such as www.themagichundred.com. A program that helps.

Note: 'what they are going to achieve not want to achieve.'

We then ask our clients to read out there goals aloud every morning and evening before they go to bed. So what's the reason for this?

Have you ever woken one morning and had a craving for a certain food or drink. Then at mid morning it strikes again, then again in the afternoon and finally in the evening when you can't resist and you give into temptation.

Now imagine if you were to wake up and the first thing you do is read out aloud your goal on your goal card or read you magic hundred list, then mid morning you do the same and so on for everyday.

Can you see where I'm coming from now?

You actually become what you think about!

If you think about what you are going to achieve this much you actually turn your thoughts into positive habits and positive results.

At first this may all seem a bit strange; I must admit it seemed a little strange to me when I first started doing it. Then things just started falling into place, you still have to make things happen of course, but if you're in a positive frame of mind it will happen.

So how do we go about starting?

Simple:

•Choose your goal and be as specific as you can

•Don't set to easy a goal, make sure the goal scares you a little

•Think about your goal as often as you can

•Actually imagine yourself being the person you want to be in that time frame

I promise you, if you stick to the above rules you'll be closer than you've ever been to your goals and you haven't even started your programme yet!

Losing Weight - Don't Be a Victim of Those Weight Loss Program Promises by William (Bill) White

You already know the answer to this question, proceed with caution.

Make no mistake, there are great weight loss programs on the market and you have to choose the right one for you. What is the right one for you? The regime that you believe you can follow, stick with and achieve the result you targeted. That makes the assumption that you have done your homework and eliminated the programs that are more hype than substance.

Thanks for that you may be saying but how do I know which are more hype than substance?

Does the marketing and sales pitch promise an amazing amount of weight loss in a short time? If so, avoid it as you are likely to suffer to reach their targets, have to pay a visit to your doctor and end up putting all that weight back on as you cannot sustain the program and give up. Your wallet might lose weight but not you.

Once over the initial substantial loss does the program detail step by step continued steady weight loss from then on? No, thought not.

Does the program mention the need for gentle exercise to support your weight loss attempts? It is necessary and does not have to be excessive.

The regime should emphasise the need to eat good food but in smaller portions. Avoid anything that suggests that you just live on special supplements. Just think of the cost, it will not be cheap although you probably will lose some weight.

A good diet program should encourage you to set realistic goals that lead you to your desired target and that desired target should be a healthy weight, not so thin you cannot cast a shadow in bright sunlight.

If the diet plan advocates one meal a day and very little else, avoid it. You will find it hard to deal with mentally, become stressed and maybe even eventually find yourself struggling not to go on a binge.

What it comes down to is do your research and try to see through the sales and marketing hype. Most of us need help when we quite rightly decide to take better care of ourselves and ongoing support for the times when we start to falter. There is nothing wrong with that, we are all human and have human failings. A fact of life. Stick with your resolve and go with a weight loss program that allows you to eat so that you can live your life but also controls your diet resulting in that desired weight loss.
